Medicine International (MI) organized a trip to the Thai-Burma border in November 1998, where a
group of physicians, carpenters, and teachers worked with Burmese Humanitarian Relief (BHR) in Chang Mai, Thailand. There was a civil war in progress throughout Burma with 100,000 refugees along the border. MI collaborated with BHR to teach and upgrade the medics who were working in Burma under primitive and adverse circumstances. Drs. Vindi Singh and HerbSigmond, along with Robert Fiesel (carpenter) and Kristina Park (linguist and traditional medicine practioner) lived among the Burmese, teaching them skills in trauma management, anesthesia, and dentistry. Kristina Park taught intensive English as a second language to 40 Thai monks while the carpenter remodeled existing clinic facilities. Dr. Singh lectured extensively in topics such as anatomy, physiology, tropical medicine, pediatrics, and internal medicine.
